VITAMIN C
What is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble vitamin and antioxidant that plays a role in several physiological processes in the body. It is involved in collagen formation and contributes to the normal functioning of connective tissue, cartilage, skin, and blood vessels.
As an antioxidant, Vitamin C assists in neutralising free radicals — unstable molecules that can be generated by stress, certain environmental exposures, and metabolic processes.
Why IV Vitamin C?
IV administration allows for direct delivery of Vitamin C into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. This may result in higher blood concentrations of Vitamin C compared to oral supplementation. All IV infusions at IVT Sydney are prepared and administered by qualified clinicians following a health screening and suitability assessment.
Please note: IV Vitamin C is not suitable for everyone and is only administered after consultation and appropriate screening. Individual suitability, including dosing, is assessed by our clinical team.
Why Might Someone Choose Vitamin C IV Therapy?
Vitamin C plays a role in several normal physiological functions, including:
Supporting the formation of collagen, important for skin, bones, and connective tissues
Assisting with iron absorption from plant-based foods
Contributing to the normal function of the immune system
Acting as an antioxidant, helping to neutralise free radicals created by physical or environmental stress
Some individuals seek IV Vitamin C as part of a wellness-focused approach during periods of travel, increased physical exertion, or when addressing dietary gaps. Our clinical team will guide you through an assessment to determine if this service is suitable for you.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
A pre-infusion consultation and health screening
Monitoring throughout the infusion process
Infusions may range from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the dose prescribed
We recommend staying well-hydrated and having a meal prior to your session
Important Considerations
High-dose Vitamin C infusions may not be suitable for individuals with the following conditions:
G6PD deficiency
Haemochromatosis
Kidney impairment or history of kidney stones
A blood test for G6PD enzyme activity is required prior to receiving high-dose Vitamin C. We may also request communication with your primary healthcare provider before proceeding with treatment at higher doses.
Ongoing Research
High-dose Vitamin C continues to be studied for various clinical applications, including its potential role in adjunctive care settings. While research is ongoing, these uses remain investigational and are not approved therapeutic indications under the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
