VITAMIN C

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant that is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. It is used to form an important protein that maintains skin, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. It also helps heal wounds and maintains cartilage, bones and your teeth.

Vitamin C is such a strong antioxidant that it can protect the body from damage caused from the build up of free radicals and toxins.

IV Vitamin C

IV therapy offers rapid and direct delivery of nutrients into the blood stream, bypassing the digestive system. When receiving Vitamin C IV, it remains fully potent and immediately available for the body to utilise at its maximum capacity.

Following the administration of IV Vitamin C, levels of Vitamin C in the blood can be expected to be elevated for up to three weeks, during which the Kidneys will control and maintain the balance of Vitamin C, alongside other vitamins, minerals and salts for healthy tissue and organ functioning.

What are the benefits of Vitamin C?

  • Adrenal gland support - Your adrenals are part of the Endocrine system and responsible for producing various hormones that regulate important bodily functions and your response to stress.

  • Protecting, reducing and the removal of free radicals that damage the body and cause inflammation

  • Supports and boosts the immune system through acute and chronic infections e.g. viral or bacterial

  • Supporting the production of collagen to aid in healing wounds, strengthen bones and tendons and maintain skin health

High-dose Vitamin C

High-dose Vitamin C has been studied and offered as a treatment for Cancer patients since the 1970’s, with research showing that Vitamin C can have a pro-oxidant affect and enhance the body’s ability to fight cancer by boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation and potentially slowing tumor growth.

Some studies have also suggested its use alongside cancer treatments can improve its efficacy, protect healthy cells and reduce side effects such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and pain.

Administration + Side Effects

Vitamin C administered IV can be given at higher doses with prescriptions up to 75g diluted in a minimum of 1000mls 0.9% Sodium Chloride or Hartmann’s solution, infused up to 3 hours.

During an infusion, you may feel cold and extremely thirsty as it can decrease your blood sugar which can cause a nauseous feeling. We encourage adequate food intake and hydration prior to and during treatment to help.

High-dose Vitamin C may be harmful in patients with certain risk factors such as kidney failure, those at risk of developing kidney stones and in those with G-6-P-D deficiency and Haemochromatosis (as Vitamin C may make the body take up and store more iron than it needs).

It is essential that G-6-PD is checked via a blood test before we administer high-dose vitamin C and that your treating doctor is consulted to ensure that the treatment is appropriate for your medical condition.
